Born in Port Elizabeth, the 30-year all-rounder is counted among the A-listers of the South African Women cricket team. Marizanne Kapp is one such player in the Proteas Women’s team who holds the calibre to steer her team to victory by her all-round performance. She played her debut WODI match against Australia, back in 2009 and she had also played one Test against India in 2014. Early Life and Debut

Marizanne once quoted that she hails from a very sporty family and has grown up playing all the sports in her school. In one of her interviews, she revealed that her father used to take her for 1 Km sprint every night and to swim in the morning. Though she also played rugby, soccer, and other street games, it was her love for cricket which drove her towards playing International cricket for her country.

As mentioned earlier, she made her WODI debut against Australia on 10th March 2009 and the T20 appearance on 16th June 2009, against the same time. She was an active all-rounder in the Eastern Province Team of South Africa.

Playing Style and Career Statistics

She is a bowling all-rounder who bowls right-arm medium and bats right-handed only. She has an impressive batting average of 27.37 and a bowling average of 23.40. She has scored six WODI fifties and one hundred, which is also her highest score. She has taken 123 wickets so far in 108 ODI matches, with best bowling figures of 4/14.

Notable Career Milestones

Marizanne Kapp was quick to establish her name in the International team because she delivered what her team needed from her. In the year 2017, she was named in the ICC Women’s cricket team of the year. Cricket South Africa awarded an International contract to fourteen players in 2018 and Marianne was one of them. She entered the prestigious 100 wickets club in 2018 while playing a WODI against West Indies. She was the leading run-scorer from the South African side in the Women’s World T20 in West Indies in 2018. In 2018, she was picked up by Sydney Sixers for the Women’s Big Bash League. A remarkable milestone came in the year 2019 when she became the third South African Woman Cricketer to play 100 WODIs.

Personal Life and Lifestyle Marianne Kapp admits that she used to be a tomboy during her childhood and played all the street games with boys. She is a fitness enthusiast and loves playing all sports. She is married to her teammate and long-time friend, Dane Van Niekerk. She is lovingly called Kappie by her teammates and can often be seen sweating out with them at the gym. When not in the field, Kapp loves to spend time with her nieces.
